One of the reasons why blogs are such a good idea and why I enjoy following blogs, especially those on the T-List, is because they are a great source of knowledge.  At ITB Berlin in March a number of T-List bloggers, including myself, sat on an expert panel and debated the role of blogs versus traditional journalists.  There was much discussion about whether citizen journalism would replace traditional journalism and about the credibility of user generated content.  My take has always been that the two will eventually find an equilibrium and that they may also feed off each other, one supporting... Read more »

Flogging is not only a form of punishment but now also refers to a form of blogging known as “commercial blogging” or “fake blogging“. Travelmole reported today that the EU has passed a law which makes it illegal for hotel (or other companies) to write false reviews on sites like TripAdvisor. The article further states that: The new law includes two categories of unfair commercial practise - misleading practices and aggressive practices. Whether a practise is deemed unfair will be judged in light of the effect it has on the average consumer’s consequent decision to... Read more »

This post actually serves two purposes: Firstly this is a great little interview with Tom Botts from Hudson Crossing LLC. Tom moderated the Blogger Workshop at PhoCusWright Orlando 2007 and seemed to really enjoy himself. Thanks Tom! Secondly, my wife forwarded me a video that was hosted using a video sharing platform called Viddler. I hadn’t heard of Viddler before but, based on its Alexa ranking of 18,487 it must be a fairly popular platform. For the most part, it is not dissimilar to YouTube, BUT what really got me excited was the ability to embed comments directly into the video... Read more »

Congratulations to my friend and fellow T-List blogger, Jens Thraenhart on the re-launch of his TourismInternetMarketing.com blog. He worked with fellow hospitality blogger Chris Clarke to put together a Wordpress blog that is extremely well designed. I know that Jens was having a lot of issues with the performance of the previous version of the Tourism Internet Marketing blog so this new version is a welcome upgrade. Great job and I look forward to reading more great posts in 2008! http://www.tourisminternetmarketing.com Sphere: Related Content Read More →

Investment #2 - Sharing your expertise So what does your expertise have to do with marketing or technology? Well, your expertise is powerful marketing content and there are many technologies that can help you share your expertise with your current and future clients. Here are my five favorite technologies for sharing: 1. Blogger: You can probably tell that I am a huge fan of blogs. As far as I am concerned, they are the best way to share your knowledge and build trust with your audience. What is great about them is that they are simple to use, extremely search engine friendly, and most platforms... Read more »

I got so caught up in getting the “Tips from the T-List” site launched that I completely forgot to post anything about it. Well, the site is live now! You’ve probably already read about it from one of the other T-List authors. I think most of them have already blogged about it. Regardless, I’m pretty happy with the site and its features, which include: Profiles for all authors including links to all their blogs Links to all author’s RSS feeds so you can subscribe to the one’s you want right on the site. The four most recent posts for each author. A consolidated... Read more »

This is a interview Darren Johner, the webmaster for Tourism Vancouver. I was introduced to Darren through Phil Caines, who works for me at Rezgo.com. Phil used to work with Tourism Vancouver before working at Rezgo. According to Darren, the biggest take away from the Canada-e-connect conference is the sense of collaboration and community. From Left to Right: Ram Badrinathan (not in photo), William Bakker, Jens Thraenhart, Stephen Joyce, Kevin May, and Phil Caines. Photo Credit: Vicky Brock The Blogger Workshop at the PhoCusWright Conference in Orlando was a huge success. Phil and I, miraculously, arrived at the conference a mere forty-five minutes before the workshop was to begin. Phil hurried to make sure the room was prepared while I connected with some of the expert panelists. The workshop began with an introduction of each of the panelists: Jens Thraenhart (Canadian Tourism Commission) William Bakker (Tourism BC) Kevin... Read more »

This is a great little vignette with William Bakker, the head of E-Commerce for Tourism BC. William is also one of the contributors to the “Tips from the T-List” book and an all round great guy. He is also one of the expert panelists at the the first ever blogger workshop and summit at the PhoCusWright Conference 2007 in Orlando, Florida. Look for more content about that later in the day. The blogger summit at The 2007 PhoCusWright Conference in Orlando, Florida was a huge success, at least in my opinion. The room was filled to capacity with approximately sixteen delegates around the tables and another twenty or so sitting in chairs and on counter tops around the room. The discussion was lively and at one point trailed off topic, but was quickly brought back to subject. Here are some points that were discussed during the summit and proved to be salient. I opened by pointing out that blog posts illicit conversations where as articles are a monologues. Although this is changing... Read more »
