Great article. Even if DMO's aren't transactional themselves, promoting open standards provides much greater opportunity for deeper analytics, and therefore more research driven marketing.

Agreed – DMOs should be the first in line for open standards. I mean, they are supposed to be the frontline, unbiased, fully-armed resource, a connector and an integrator, so it is a no-brainer in my book.
