PhoCusWright Travel Innovator: Nile Guide
Nile Guide is a travel planning tool that combines a trip planning or itinerary creator with a customized printable travel guide. The traveller is first asked where they want to go and they are presented with a set list of popular destinations. Once you have chosen a destination, you are presented with a very informative page filled with information about the destination including weather, things to see and do, history, and transportation. You can drill down further by choosing one of many options.
When you see a blue plus signal next to an item, it means you can add it to your itinerary. Once you have added some items to your itinerary you can proceed to your trip plan. From your trip planner you can add more details, drag and drop itinerary items on to a schedule and preview your travel guide.
The resulting travel guide is quite nice and incorporates information from a number of open source sites including wikitravel and Nile Guide’s own content.
It is possible to book some accommodations but activities and tours are not bookable through Nile Guide at this time. Much of the content appears to be driven through a partnership with WCities.com.
Questions:
- Is there a plan to integrate bookings into Nile Guide?
- It appears that you can only add items to your guide that are available through Nile Guide, is there a plan to allow travelers to add their own items to their itineraries?
- Are there any thoughts of licensing the technology to allow travel agents to create co-branded “Nile Guide” travel guides for their customers?
