Joe,

I agree, some DMO's have big risk to be completly out of the game.

especially in this crisis time, where everybody is looking for restriction budget.

In France some DMO's are in financial crisis and are wondering how they can run their business with less budget!

Hoppefully, some are dynamic, and even with small budget but with smart thinking and smart promotion they can win de game.

And with our little help of course ;-)

best regards

Great post, Stephen
It still amazes me how risk averse so many DMOs, especially the established ones, are and how bureaucracies still rule their mindset.

No wonder they keep missing opportunities to put their organizations into play as the online travel market is shifting from a purely booking oriented focus to an integrated approach starting with the planning and research process, as PhoCusWright has been rightly proclaiming now for some time.

The innovators will become more relevant and my guess is that in a number of places new start-ups might give the established DMOs a run for their money and if they are not careful they might soon outlive their usefulness.

That seems to be the case with most DMOs. It is not about the technology but more about whether or not someone's position is at risk. It can become quite political, especially in more established organizations.

Bonjour Stephen,

great & great post.

International problem

As far I can see, and also as far i see in France area, it's not a technology problem, it's a DMO's management problem and a human know-how or skills.

Well, hopefully, with have laways 30 % leader guys in all organisation. We need to focus first on this target. Then the others will follow us ;-)

Best regards from Marseille
