New Travel Bookmarking Site a Cross Between Del.icio.us and LonelyPlanet

I recently came across a new website called TravelBookmarking.com. I found it quite by accident while using Stumbleupon to look for travel related sites.
TravelBookmarking.com is a sister site to SoMuchWorld.com which is a free web based travel guide similar in nature to Wikitravel.org or World66.com but written by a set of professional travel writers. The reason why I like TravelBookmarking.com is because it gives travelers the ability to bookmark sites (in del.icio.us style) in order to create their own personal travel guides. Travelers can even copy and paste in creative commons or open source content into their bookmarks instead of just linking to the content. I see an opportunity for long tail suppliers to add Travel bookmarking to their websites in order to allow travelers to add their products directly to their personal travel guides. In this way, travelers can add not only destination content to their guides, but also tours, activities, or events of interest.
The site is still pretty new but I look forward to seeing what else they come up with, perhaps some mapping… hint hint. For an overview of the site, check out there nice little “Proof” video.

Dear Stephen
It’s Ed here from So Much World.
Thanks a million for mentioning travelbookmarking here and for totally ‘getting it’. We tend to hit the development button at regular intervals and when funds allow so to see someone understanding exactly what we’re up to at this stage and sharing with their community is very reassuring for us.
I’d be really keen to hear more from you with regard to your suggestions on mapping and other 2.0 features you think people might like to see on travel bookmarking.
Anyway have a really great day and good luck with the blog and everything else you’re up to.
Ed
Hi Ed,
Thanks for the comment. I really like the concept behind both SoMuchWorld.com and TravelBookMarking.com. One thing I am a huge advocate of is collaboration, so it would be great to see the ability to share bookmarks and destination content through an API of some kind. This opens up all kinds of opportunities to mash-up both the bookmarks and content with Google maps or other mapping technologies. If you are concerned about unauthorized content, you could look at using an API key or other authentication method.
In the meantime, I am recommending that we (rezgo.com) add your bookmarking icon to all our customer accounts.
Keep in touch and let me know when you do any updates.
Cheers,
Stephen
Thanks Stephen
Definitely will do.
Also thanks for the offer with the bookmarking icon. It’s been difficult getting that out there in the travel community so far which is a real shame. I suspect it’s a momentum thing and once it starts to creep out there people will recognize it and it will gather speed.
Let’s hope so.
Will keep in touch
Ed
We added the travelbookmarking icon to the Rezgo.com booking engine front-end. It is a very easy integration and I recommend other travel suppliers and tour operators consider adding it to their websites. More links the better!
